Nejiten vs NejiHina
Woah this community is a bit quiet now...I miss the good old days...Anyways!

After watching all the Springtime of Youth and then Road to Ninja and even some main anime episodes, even as a NejiTen supporter, I'm finding it hard to explain Neji's behavior towards Hinata. I mean, Springtime of Youth isn't canon I guess, but it's so full of NejiHina moments--kinda.

Some things I assume is just Neji being over-protective because he cares about her...but when did that happen? When did Neji suddenly develop such strong feelings for Hinata? Sure he gained respect for her over time, but this is just too much. I don't think he's in love with her, but he sure has a sister-complex. But some scenes I'm at a lost to defend his actions. Like all that blushing, peeping etc.
He never does that with Tenten lol

What do you think?

Well first off, no matter how much we may wish for NarutoSD to be canon, it isn't. So anything in there is guaranteed to be played up for laughs, and a large portion of Neji's humor in NarutoSD is that they portray him doing the complete opposite of what he normally would do or stick him in situations incredibly out of his comfort zone. Both SoY and Road to Ninja crank up the laughs by portraying Neji with a pervy side, accidental or not. So already we know this is pretty much OOC stuff for the canon Neji: the blushing, peeping, etc. Besides, once you put on shipping goggles you can see Nejiten everywhere. >D

Neji has always had strong feelings for Hinata: first it was hate, and now post-timeskip it's protectiveness (to the point of almost dying, thanks a lot Kishimoto). Actually though, that protectiveness post-timeskip has pretty much always been shown in context of Hinata wanting to be stronger for Naruto; Neji will teach and defend her so that eventually she will be strong enough to stand by Naruto's side and/or change the Hyuuga clan. Which, in the canon manga now, she is (insomuch as Kishimoto allowing females to kick ass in a shonen manga, anyway >>).

I only just came across your comment now... I like the idea that Neji had been protecting/teaching Hinata so that she can be strong for Naruto - very plausible reason, especially since he respected Naruto to the extent he did.

and it looks to be NaruHina in the last movie.... I am so glad Neji didn't die for nothing lol
