Opinion post!
Let's have a little discussion once in a while.

Yesterday I was watching the dub (yes, even though it's awful), and they showed the Hinata vs Neji episode of the chuunin exam. While I was watching Neji being such an awful jerk, I wondered what Tenten would have thought if she had seen this fight?

Neji was an arrogant bastard before Naruto "changed" him, and almost killed Hinata out of rage when she said he was probably suffering more than her. Would Tenten be disappointed in him if she saw how he acted? Bullying Hinata and all?

I think she'd feel sorry for him. Sorry he thinks this way, and sad that Hinata is right about him suffering. Maybe helpless that she can't help? I think that if Tenten is in love with him, (and we all know she is) she must have fallen in love after he changed.

What do you think?

Another thing I've been wondering about, in episode 34, (the episode after Sasuke goes psycho and breaks Zaku's arms) when Lee is talking to Sakura, Tenten is nearby and has some kind of annoyed reaction at this, and I was like "Wut? It kinda looks like she's jealous."
If you don't remember, you can watch it here: at 5:15

That was even in the manga. But what does it mean? It looks like...LeeTen hints? o_O Any one has a better explanation?

i think you would be about right when you said she would have felt sorry for him and sad that Hinata is right about Neji suffering. About the love thing, i don't really know. i think she already felt something more toward him then she did Lee before he changed. i think she realized what's he's going through, not to say that she would have approve of what he was about to do to Hinata but that she would have understood the reasons behind it.

About the part that maybe she was jealous of Lee, i highly doubt it. I think it was more of a combination of annoyance (Lee went on his own and tried to protect a girl he just meet, i think its consider an annoyance since judging by his character, he probably do this very often), anger (he gets himself hurt too often and as his teammate, she is concern about him although she may be a bit harsh on him), and perhaps a little bit of admiration(i think her reaction was more due to his declaration that "The Lotus in Konoha bloom twice. the next time we meet, i promise that i will be a stronger man...") for him since he's all bitten up and still promising to not give up and become stronger from that.

all in all, i love all three characters, Lee is among my favorite as well but i will still prefer TentenxNeji any day of the week so i guess i'm a little bias...

Maybe Kishi's trying to pull a love triangle like all those soap operas do...

Where are the LeeTen hints in the game and manga? (I'm NejiTen biased, so I wouldn't know...)

Well I think that Tenten must have had an idea about Neji's feelings toward his family by then (I don't think she would've known all about it cuz I can't see Neji confiding in her at that point). So since she had some knowledge to work on, I think she would've been disappointed and definitely shocked by his actions (cuz he was pretty brutal, you know even tho he gave Hinata a chance to walk away). But despite that, she must have known that there was something behind it (since she'd probably be used to Neji's stoic demeanour) so I guess she would've agreed with Hinata.

I watched ep. 34 and I wouldn't say that her reaction seemed annoyed (it just looked like a regular reaction to me). But if it was kind of annoyed, maybe Kishi-sama's just trying to give Lee something (I mean Neji's already got the skill, he's gonna get the girl too?! lol.) But I don't really like the LeeTen pairing myself - I got so used to NejiTen.

Btw, I read a fic that answered this question onn ff.net and it was pretty good. It's called Perspective by Mihael Keehl. Read it - it's really good.

Um, I've searched all over but I can't find that fic - do you have a link? Thanks.

I think you were right about how Tenten would have felt.

(But I'd think that if she had been there, Neji might not have been such a bully. Maybe he was angry that Tenten lost. *shrug*)

In episode 34 she was probably annoyed and worried at the same time. I get that face too sometimes when I'm annoyed and worried. Or maybe she also feels ignored there?

But her expression made it look like she didn't like the attention Lee was giving Sakura... But the reason for that could be many things.

No no No no. You see I think TenTen was just annoyed at Sakura because she had broken Lee's heart once and she is trying to protect him. He seems more like a good friend or a little brother she is trying to look out for. So the annoyed look is understandable, Tenten doesn't want Sakura to get his hopes up and toy with his heart.

Hmmm.....'tis an interesting discussion idea you have here, Luna.

I just watched the part in episode 34, and I'm not quite sure if Tenten is jealous or not. She could just be worried about Lee and how much attention he showers on Sakura, like the anonymous person said. But she could also be worried about the means Lee is going to, which is basically the same thing, so that was pointless.

And about Neji and Hinata and whatnot, I think that Tenten admired Neji's skill since the beginning of Team Gai, or maybe even prior, but didn't think of him romantically (I don't think) until after Naruto changed him.

And all that blabber is to say that, on the Neji vs. Hinata & changed Neji part, I agree with you :D.

I think Tenten would have a reserved reaction (like an 'oh no...' type sigh) to what's going on. At this point, I'm pretty sure all of members of Team Gai are aware of their Teammate's problem with the Main Branch. I think after the point Neji was going too far though, I'm sure she would have shown a bit of shock. Maybe shout or something for him to stop, but it not doing anything to stop him. Like a background noise to him. However, even if she was there I doubt Kishimoto would have spent a lot of time on her reaction mainly cause there was so much going on to begin with. Perhaps it was for the better Tenten wasn't there to see it. *shrug*

I think you're looking too far into the scene. And even if it was intended to be a LeeTen hint, let it be. All pairings at the moment are still possible, and have their valid points and moments. I don't think that was a valid point for any pairing really, but there are other moments and hints in the anime/manga that could go in the LeeTen favor. I'd say though, rather then focus on that, look at the spiffy NejiTen moments we were able to get in both the anime and manga.

Obviously Neji said some things to his team about the Branch/Main thing, but I find it doubtful that Neji was demonstrative about his motivations to the team. (Gai would probably know more due to his access to records). Tenten was probably surprised at the intensity of his match, but given his attitude toward Lee it seems doubtful Neji's cruelty would really shock her.

Keep in mind that Tenten IS a ninja in a ninja village. A few things things about her history and attitude suggest she's more mature and may have had a harder time than other kunoichi her age. Sure, Hinata's resolve was impressive and she's innocent of any willful wrongdoing. But so what? To Neji, it wasn't really about Hinata herself. And no kunoichi can expect an opponent to cut them ANY slack. If they do, they really should give up.

I guess I just wouldn't assume Tenten is a puppies and kittens and forgiveness kind of girl. To me, she actually seems more like the sort that would understand holding a grudge. Especially over something so important.

As for the Sakura/Lee moment in the FoD... Well, the annoyance part is easy to see. Helping out your rivals or opponents and collecting an injury for them during a very important team test? Expected given Lee's infatuation, but still irritating. Jealousy? Yeah, could be a Lee/Tenten vibe there. On the other hand, it could be just be jealousy that Sakura has a demonstrative and chivalrous suitor. Lots of girls Tenten's age would want that, and whether or not has a thing for Lee, I sure she'd knows better than to devalue his devotion just because he's got big eyebrows.

Actually, that's how I interpreted that scene as well! You've said exactly what I was thinking! :D

i think its just me because i'm plain weird but i thought tenten was a bit surprised by lee's behavior...

i mean the guy almost got killed because of her and he still throwing his affection for her?
i don't know but that was my point of view of that scene

(Anonymous) on November 25th, 2007 11:12 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I think Tenten's just irritated at the fact that Lee so foolishly loves Sakura after having just met her. I mean, he decides to risk his life for her from the start (but then again, maybe that's just Lee?). Maybe Tenten feels bad for him because she's already able to predict that despite Lee's efforts, Sakura's feelings won't change, so Lee's only hurting himself. That's just the way it looks to me. A mix between exasperation and sympathy.
(Anonymous) on November 26th, 2007 07:01 pm (UTC)
i dont think it's jealousy. It's more like... a typical confused!Tenten looking at Lee who just grew another head. It's a normal reaction, and personally, I don't think that the odds between LeeTen and NejiTen are 50/50... it rises above 70 in Neji's favor.

Come on. The waterprison scene is almost a give away. Why the hell would Kishimoto even bother to draw a tab that involves Neji holding her up when she could've just squatted on the water-floor, right?

On that same note, why did kishi let Lee catch Tenten during the Chunin exams during the preliminary battle in her fight against Temri which she so horribly lost?
